How many clips can you get from one long video?

There's no fixed number, but there is a useful one. Here's the rule of thumb we plan campaigns with, what pushes it up or down, and how many clips to actually post.
Our working numbers: one hour of talk-heavy video (a podcast, stream, interview or course) usually gives us 12 to 20 clips. A music release, cut from the hook, studio sessions and live takes, usually gives 25+.
Why not more?
Some clipping tools say you can get 30 or 40 clips from an hour. You can, if you count every 30-second stretch as a clip. But a clip has to stand on its own: it needs a hook in the first couple of seconds, enough context to follow, and a payoff. Most hours of conversation don't contain 40 of those.
Posting weak clips isn't free either. They get fewer views, and in a paid network they still cost review time. We'd rather post 15 good clips than 40 average ones.
What changes the count
| Pushes the count up | Pushes the count down |
|---|---|
| Strong opinions and clear answers | Long setups and slow build-ups |
| Stories that end on a line | Inside jokes and references to earlier episodes |
| More than one speaker disagreeing | The same point repeated in different words |
| Several camera angles | One wide shot that's hard to crop to vertical |
| Extra footage: behind the scenes, live takes | Only the main recording |
By type of video
- Podcasts and interviews. Close to our 12 to 20 per hour, more if the guest is sharp. See how to turn a podcast into clips.
- Music releases. 25+, because one release usually comes with several sources: official audio, studio sessions, live takes. See hook formats for music clips.
- Streams and gaming. Long, but uneven. The clips cluster around the big moments, so the number depends on what happened on stream.
- Courses and webinars. Often fewer per hour because the teaching builds step by step. The best clips are the single, clear lessons.
One clip, many versions
In a clipping network, one strong moment doesn't have to be one post. Different clippers cut the same moment their own way, with their own hook and caption, for their own audience. That's one reason network campaigns can get far more out of the same video than a single account posting it once.
How many clips should you post?
That depends on where they're going:
- Your own accounts: a steady 1 to 2 a day is enough for most pages. Our Entry plan posts 2 a day, and Growth posts 4, often split across a main page and a fan page.
- A clipping network: there's no daily cap. The limit is how many good moments you've got, and how many clips you can check properly.
Plan from the number backwards
If you want a month of daily clips on your own page, you need about 30 good clips, which is roughly two hours of strong talk-heavy video. If you're running a network campaign, more source video gives clippers more to work with and keeps the feed from repeating.
Questions people ask
How many clips can you get from a 1-hour podcast?
Usually 12 to 20 good ones. A sharp guest with strong stories gives more. A slow catch-up episode gives fewer.
How many clips can you get from a song release?
Usually 25+, cut from the hook, studio sessions and live takes. The more footage that comes with the release, the more clips.
Is it better to post more clips or better clips?
Better clips. Weak clips get fewer views and cost review time. Post the moments that stand on their own and stop when they run out.
How long does it take to get clips posted?
With SOVE7GN, a campaign is live within 48 hours of you sending the videos and approving the 2 example clips.
