Car dealership TikTok ideas for luxury dealers, and the music and finance rules that catch them out
Updated 28 October 2026 · Written by Reyansh Juneja, co-founder of SOVE7GN, who runs the campaigns and reviews the clips
The car dealership TikTok ideas that work for luxury and exotic dealers put the owner or a known salesperson on camera with the car: a walkaround with an opinion, a delivery day, a trade-in appraised out loud, a sourcing story. Two rules catch dealers out on TikTok in particular: a business account has to use TikTok's Commercial Music Library, and saying a monthly payment on camera triggers federal credit disclosures.
Short answer: Post walkarounds where you say what you would check, delivery days filmed with the buyer's consent, trade-in appraisals, auction and sourcing runs, and "this or that" comparisons, 1 or 2 a day. Use sounds from TikTok's Commercial Music Library, not trending songs from the general library. Say the cash price if you like, but a monthly payment, down payment or term on camera triggers the full Regulation Z disclosures, so leave finance talk to the showroom. Checked October 2026. General information, not legal advice.
What should a car dealership post on TikTok?
In our view TikTok rewards a person, not an inventory feed. The viral salesman accounts work because one person has opinions and is on camera every day; a luxury dealer can use the same idea at a slower, more credible pace. Ten formats we would build around:
| # | Format | What happens | Why it works on TikTok |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Opinionated walkaround | You walk the car and say the three things you would check before buying it | Specific judgment, not a spec sheet |
| 2 | Delivery day | The handover, the buyer's reaction, the drive away | A real emotional moment; needs the buyer's written consent |
| 3 | Trade-in appraised out loud | You look over a trade and explain what moves the number | People love seeing how valuation works |
| 4 | Sourcing run | Auction, a private seller, a car being collected | A story with a destination |
| 5 | "This or that" | Two cars side by side, your pick and why | Invites comments and stitches |
| 6 | The detail nobody notices | One feature, close up, 15 seconds | Fast, loopable |
| 7 | Service bay | What a pre-sale inspection actually finds | Builds trust in your used inventory |
| 8 | "Why this one is priced here" | Market context for one car, cash price only | Answers the question buyers want answered |
| 9 | Customer question answered | One real question from comments or DMs, on camera | Turns a viewer's question into the next post |
| 10 | Owner story | Why you started, the car that made the business | Gives the account a face |
Our car dealership reel ideas page shows how one walkaround becomes 15 clips, with hook lines for each; the same footage feeds TikTok.
How often should a dealership post on TikTok?
1 or 2 a day, every day, if you can sustain it. That sounds like a lot of filming; it is not, if you film each car once and properly. A 20 to 30 minute walkaround where you talk the whole way through gives enough material for several clips per car, and one hour of talk-heavy video usually gives us 12 to 20 clips. A dealer taking in a few interesting cars a week has more than enough.
What does not work: posting the same listing photos as a slideshow, or reposting manufacturer footage. Neither has a person in it.
Which music can a dealership use on TikTok?
This is the TikTok-specific rule most dealers do not know. TikTok's help center says "Businesses cannot use the general music library for commercial usage" and should use the Commercial Music Library for all commercial activity, including organic posts, duets and stitches, video ads and branded content (TikTok Ads Help: About the Commercial Music Library, checked October 2026). It also says to consult your legal team before using another user's original sound or other licensed sounds.
What that means in practice:
- Set the dealership up as a business account and pick sounds from the Commercial Music Library.
- Do not switch to a personal account to get trending songs for dealership posts. The rule is about commercial use, not about which account type you choose.
- A clip with no music, just the engine and your voice, is often the better choice for a car anyway.
- If you also post the clip as a Reel or a Short, check that platform's rules for the sound separately.
What can a dealer say about price and payments on TikTok?
The same rules as any other ad. For credit, if a dealer's ad states the amount or percentage of a down payment, the number of payments or period of repayment, the amount of any payment, or the amount of any finance charge, it must also state the down payment, the terms of repayment and the "annual percentage rate", using that term (12 CFR 226.24(d), checked October 2026). Leases have their own trigger terms under Regulation M (12 CFR 213.7).
| Said on camera | Triggers disclosures? | Safer version |
|---|---|---|
| "This one is $189,000." | No, a cash price alone is not a credit trigger term | Fine, if it is the real price |
| "Drive it home for $2,400 a month." | Yes: amount of a payment | "Ask us about financing" |
| "Only 10% down." | Yes: down payment | Leave it out |
| "72-month terms available." | Yes: period of repayment | Leave it out |
| "Lease it for $1,999 a month." | Yes, under Regulation M | Leave it out |
The prices in the table are made-up examples. Our cautious reading: a payment said in a TikTok Live or a comment reply is still said in an advertisement, so the same care applies there. Which version of Regulation Z applies to a dealer, state rules such as California's, and a full checklist are on car dealership advertising laws.
Who should be on camera at a luxury dealership?
The owner or one salesperson who will be there next year. Buyers at this level want a relationship, and a recognizable face is what TikTok's audience follows. Film the person with the cars, let them have opinions, and keep the same person on most posts so the account has a character.
If you want the cutting and posting done, we turn your walkarounds and deliveries into daily clips on your own accounts. Entry is $2,000 a month for 2 clips a day and Growth $4,000 for 4 a day; on a 3-month plan at Entry or above we guarantee 1,000,000 views, and if you fall short we keep posting at our own cost (terms). You approve every clip before it posts, and we do not review clips for legal compliance. Questions people ask
Is TikTok good for car dealerships?
For dealers willing to put a person on camera every day, yes, in our view. The platform runs on personalities and stories, which suits a luxury or exotic dealer with interesting inventory and an owner who has opinions about it.
What should car salesmen post on TikTok?
Walkarounds with your honest take, delivery days filmed with the buyer's consent, trade-in appraisals, and answers to real questions from comments. Keep monthly payments out of the clips.
Can a car dealership use popular songs on TikTok?
Not for commercial content. TikTok's business help says businesses cannot use the general music library for commercial use and should use the Commercial Music Library instead.
Can a dealer say a monthly payment in a TikTok video?
Only with the full disclosures. A payment amount is a trigger term under Regulation Z, so the ad must also state the down payment, the repayment terms and the APR. Most dealers leave payments out of clips.
