CPM clipping vs retainer clipping
Updated 10 October 2026 · Written by the SOVE7GN founders
Clipping agencies sell two different things under the same word. Knowing which one you need saves a lot of confused calls.
Short answer: retainer clipping means editors cut and post clips on your accounts every day, for a flat monthly fee. CPM clipping means a network of clippers posts your clips on their accounts and gets paid per 1,000 views. A retainer builds pages you own. CPM clipping reaches people who don't follow you yet. At SOVE7GN, retainers start at $2,000 a month and CPM pools start at $5,500 plus 15%.
The difference in one table
| Retainer clipping | CPM clipping | |
|---|---|---|
| Where clips are posted | Your accounts | Clippers' accounts |
| Who sees them | Your followers, plus whoever the algorithm shows | Many separate audiences |
| How you pay | Flat monthly fee | A pool paid out per 1,000 approved views, plus a fee |
| What you're building | Pages you own | Reach and awareness |
| SOVE7GN price | $2,000, $4,000 or $5,000–6,000 a month | Pool from $5,500, plus 15% |
| Volume | 2 to 4 clips a day | As many as the pool pays for |

Which should you start with?
Start with a retainer if:
- your own pages are quiet or inconsistent
- you want something that keeps growing after the money stops
- your budget is around $2,000 a month
Start with CPM clipping if:
- you have a release, launch or tour with a date
- you need lots of new people to see something fast
- your own pages are already active
Run both if you want the attention from clippers to land on accounts you own. People who see a clip on a clipper's page and look you up should find an active page, not a dead one.
Questions people ask
Which one gives more views?
CPM clipping usually gives more views faster, because many accounts post at once. A retainer builds steadily on your own pages.
Is the 1,000,000-view guarantee for both?
It's for retainer plans signed for 3 months, Entry or above. On CPM clipping you only pay clippers for approved views from your pool.
Can I switch from one to the other?
Yes. Entry and Growth are month to month, and CPM campaigns are funded one pool at a time.
Can a retainer include a fan page?
Yes. On Growth, the 4 clips a day can be split 2 for your main page and 2 for a fan page. See fan page vs main account.
