How to run a clipping campaign
Updated 10 October 2026 · Written by the SOVE7GN founders
Running a clipping campaign yourself is very doable. It's mostly about preparation and review. Here's the process we use, step by step.
Short answer: pick strong source videos, write clear rules, make a couple of example clips, set a rate per 1,000 views and a budget, then review every clip before you pay. Report weekly and push more of what works. Skipping review is the most expensive mistake.
1. Choose your source videos
Pick videos with lots of moments that stand on their own: strong opinions, stories with a payoff, big plays, the hook of a song. One hour of talk-heavy video usually gives 12 to 20 good clips. A music release usually gives 25+.
2. Pick the moments yourself first
Don't leave it all to clippers. Mark the 10 to 20 best moments with timestamps. Clippers will find others, but your list sets the standard.
3. Write the rules
Clear rules are what make review fast and fair. Include:
- which videos can be used
- which audio (for music, the official audio)
- required tags, credits and links
- length limits
- what's off-limits: topics, people, unreleased material
- ad disclosure if your region requires it
Use our clipping brief template as a starting point.
4. Make 2 example clips
Show, don't tell. Two example clips teach clippers your style faster than any rule sheet.
5. Set the rate and budget
- Rate per 1,000 views: public campaigns mostly pay $0.20 to $6, most near $1. See how much to pay clippers.
- Budget: the total you'll pay out.
- Caps: a minimum view count before a clip earns, and a maximum payout per clip.
6. Launch and recruit clippers
Post the campaign on a clipping platform or in a clipper community. Good clippers pick campaigns with clear rules and reliable pay.
7. Review every clip
For each clip, check:
- Did it follow the rules?
- Did views build naturally or jump overnight?
- Do likes and comments match the views?
- Are viewers in the regions you care about?
- Did the platform flag anything?
In our network, about 1 in 6 clips fails one of these. More in how to spot fake views.
8. Pay on approved views
Pay only for clips that pass. Tell clippers why you rejected a clip, so they fix it next time.
9. Report weekly
Track total approved views, best clips, which moments and hooks worked, and which platforms delivered. Then brief clippers to make more of what worked.
Or have it run for you
On a SOVE7GN campaign we do steps 2 to 9. You send the videos, approve the rules and 2 example clips, and fund the pool, from $5,500, plus a 15% management fee.
Questions people ask
How long should a clipping campaign run?
A month is a common length. It gives enough time to learn what works and adjust.
How many clippers do I need?
Enough to spend your budget at the rate you set. Quality matters more than headcount.
How long does review take?
It depends on volume. We review every clip within 24 hours, so clippers aren't left waiting.
What's the most common mistake?
Paying without checking. The second is vague rules, which lead to clips you have to reject.
