What does a short form content agency do, and what does it cost?

Updated 13 October 2026 · Written by the SOVE7GN founders

This page is for founders, creators and marketers who want someone else to handle TikTok, Reels and Shorts, and who keep finding agencies that call themselves "short form", "clipping" or "content" agencies. They mostly sell the same three things under different names. Here's how to tell them apart and what each costs.

Short answer: a short form content agency turns long videos (podcasts, streams, interviews, talks) into vertical clips and gets them posted. Agencies price it in three ways: per-video editing, a monthly retainer to post on your own accounts, or a pay-per-view campaign across other people's accounts. Published prices in October 2026 run from $2,000 a month (SOVE7GN's Entry retainer) to $15,000 minimums for managed view campaigns.

What a short form agency actually does

Every short-form agency does some mix of three jobs: editing clips, posting them on your accounts, and distributing them through accounts it doesn't own. Which mix you buy decides the price far more than the agency's name does.

JobWhat it meansWho usually sells it
Editing onlyThey cut clips and send you files. You post.Freelance editors, "short form editing agencies"
Editing and postingThey cut and post on your own TikTok, Instagram and YouTube every dayRetainer agencies
DistributionMany independent accounts post your clips, paid per 1,000 viewsClipping agencies and marketplaces

If you already have an editor and only need more views, you want distribution. If you have no one posting at all, you want editing and posting first. See what is clipping for how the distribution side works.

The three pricing models

Agencies charge per video, per month or per view. Here are real published figures so you can compare like with like. Checked October 2026.

ModelYou pay forPublished examples
Per videoEach finished clipVaries by editor; see short form editor cost
Monthly retainerA set number of clips posted for youSOVE7GN: Entry $2,000, Growth $4,000, Full service $5,000 to $6,000 a month. Growthr: "$10,000/month plus 10% of managed spend", per its Clutch profile
Pay per view (CPM)Approved views on other accountsLumina: $5,000 minimum per campaign, custom rate (luminaclippers.com). Clipping Culture: managed campaigns start at $15,000, with an average cost of $0.68 to $0.71 per 1,000 verified views (pricing page, which calls these "averages across our campaigns, not a quote"). SOVE7GN: pool from $5,500 plus a 15% fee

A retainer buys a fixed amount of work. A CPM campaign buys an outcome, but only views on accounts you don't own. Many buyers end up with both. See CPM clipping vs retainer.

Worked example: what a retainer needs from you

The number agencies rarely tell you up front is how much source video they need. A retainer that posts 4 clips a day publishes about 120 clips a month. At our working rate of 12 to 20 clips per hour of talk-heavy video, that takes roughly 6 to 10 hours of recorded material every month.

If an agency promises 4 clips a day from one short video a week, ask where the other clips come from. See how many clips per video for what pushes the count up or down.

Questions to ask before you sign

A good agency answers these in writing. A vague answer to any of them is worth a follow-up call.

  1. Whose accounts do the clips go on? Yours, theirs, or independent clippers'?
  2. Do I approve clips before they go live, or only the first few?
  3. What counts as a view in your reports, and on which platforms?
  4. How many hours of source video do you need for the plan I'm buying?
  5. Who owns any account you create, and what happens to it if we stop?
  6. What is the minimum term, and is there a discount or a guarantee for committing longer?
  7. Can I see live posts, not screenshots, from current campaigns?

More warning signs are on clipping agency red flags.

How SOVE7GN's plans map to these models

SOVE7GN sells the retainer and the CPM model, and you can run them together. We don't sell editing-only packages.

Questions people ask

How much does a short form content agency cost?

Published retainers run from $2,000 a month (SOVE7GN Entry) to $10,000 a month plus 10% of managed spend (Growthr, per its Clutch profile). Pay-per-view campaigns have published minimums from $5,000 to $15,000. Per-video editing is cheaper but leaves posting to you.

Is a short form agency the same as a clipping agency?

Mostly. "Clipping agency" usually means pay-per-view distribution through other accounts. "Short form agency" more often means editing and posting on your own accounts. Ask which one you're buying.

Do I need to film new content for a short form agency?

Not usually. Most agencies cut from what you already record, such as podcasts, streams and interviews. You need enough hours of it to feed the plan.

What's the difference between a short form editing agency and a content agency?

An editing agency hands you finished files. A content agency also plans what to post, posts it and reports on results.
