Invisalign marketing for practices: video content that stays inside Align's brand rules

Updated 29 October 2026 · Written by Reyansh Juneja, co-founder of SOVE7GN, who runs the campaigns and reviews the clips

Invisalign marketing for a practice is mostly a brand-rules problem before it is a content problem: Align Technology owns the Invisalign trademark, has sued a practice it said used the name to sell other aligners, and has told practices that stopped ordering to stop using its brand assets. Inside those rules, the content that works is the dentist or orthodontist explaining the aligner treatment timeline on camera, with consenting patients at each stage.

Short answer: Only use the Invisalign name and assets while you are an active Align customer, never put it next to another aligner brand in a way that suggests they are the same product, and only claim the provider tier Align currently gives you. Then film the treatment timeline: scan, first trays, check-ins, refinements, retainers. Avoid "painless" claims, which many state dental practice acts restrict, and get written HIPAA authorization from every patient shown. Checked October 2026. General information, not legal advice.

What are Align's rules on using the Invisalign name?

Align publishes social media guidelines at invisalign.com, but when we checked in October 2026 the page redirected us to a regional Align site and would not load, so we could not read them. Ask your Align representative for the current brand guidelines in writing. What we could verify:

In May 2024 Align sued an Oregon orthodontic practice for $28 million, alleging it used Invisalign's registered trademarks to pass off other clear aligners as Align's or affiliated with Align. These are allegations in a complaint.DrBicuspid, 14 May 2024
A formal letter from Align, as read on a June 2025 trade podcast, told practices that had not ordered Invisalign in 12 or more months to stop using brand assetsOrthodontic Products podcast, 12 June 2025
The marketing consultant on that podcast said Align permits only active customers who ordered a new case in the current calendar quarter, and named ads, page URLs, meta tags, alt text and Google Business Profile as places practices had to clean upSame podcast (her account, not Align's published wording)

Our cautious reading for video and social posts:

Can you say you are a Diamond or Platinum provider?

Only the tier Align currently gives you. The tier thresholds we found came only from practice websites and contradicted each other, and we could not open Align's own criteria, so we are not quoting any. The ADA Code says objective claims of superior quality need reasonable substantiation, and statements must not create "an unjustified expectation about results" (ADA Code, 5.F.2).

Our cautious reading: a tier is a factual claim. State it the way Align states it, date-check it each year, and take it off every video, bio and graphic the year you drop a level. Do not stretch a tier into a skill claim such as "the most experienced aligner doctor in town" unless you can substantiate it.

Which words should Invisalign videos avoid?

In an August 2024 letter to Align about its palatal expander ads, the American Association of Orthodontists said many states' dental practice acts "strictly prohibit" dentists and orthodontists from advertising techniques as "painless" or "less painful" (AAO letter, 20 August 2024). Check your own state's act.

AvoidSay instead
"Painless straightening""Here is what a new tray usually feels like for our patients" (then describe it honestly)
"Straight teeth in 6 months""Your timeline depends on your case; here is how we estimate it"
"Better than braces""When aligners fit a case, and when braces do"
"Invisalign" for a non-Invisalign system"Clear aligners"

What Invisalign content actually brings in patients?

The treatment timeline, told by the doctor, with real patients at each stage. People searching for aligners want to know what the months will feel like. Your video can show them.

StageVideoWho is on camera
Consult and scan"What happens at your aligner consult"Doctor and a consenting patient
First trays"Day one with aligners: what to expect"Doctor, patient
Check-ins"Why we see you every few weeks"Doctor
Attachments"What those bumps on your teeth are for"Doctor
Refinements"Why some cases need extra trays"Doctor
Retainers"The part nobody tells you: retainers"Doctor, patient at the end of treatment

Film the doctor's explanations in one session a month and the patient moments as they happen. One hour of talk-heavy video usually gives us 12 to 20 clips. For teens, the consent rules for minors are on orthodontist social media.

What consent do you need for aligner patient videos?

For a US practice, a patient's photos or video used to promote the practice need their written HIPAA authorization under 45 CFR 164.508, and they can revoke it in writing. A timeline story runs over many months, so get one authorization at the start that covers every stage, every platform and the clips cut from it. If you pay or discount treatment for a patient who appears, the FTC treats that as a material connection to disclose (16 CFR 255.5). The clauses are on our patient photo consent form page.

If you want the doctor's sessions turned into daily clips on your own accounts, we do that: you approve 2 example clips first, and nothing with the Invisalign name goes out unless you have cleared it. On a 3-month plan at Entry or above we guarantee 1,000,000 views; if you fall short, we keep posting at our own cost (terms). The wider plan for a practice is on dental office video marketing. Questions people ask

Can I use the Invisalign name in my practice marketing?

Generally only while you are an active Align customer and only for Invisalign treatment. Confirm the current brand guidelines with your Align representative, because Align has been enforcing them.

Can I advertise Invisalign on Google or Meta ads?

Ask Align first. A consultant on a 2025 trade podcast said Align's letter told practices not to use Invisalign in ads; we could not read Align's own guidelines to confirm the exact rule.

What is a good Invisalign marketing strategy for a dental practice?

The doctor explaining each stage of aligner treatment on camera, consenting patients at the scan, first trays and retainers, and every claim checked against your state's rules and Align's brand rules.

Can I post Invisalign patient before and afters?

Yes, with the patient's written authorization, and without implying their result or timeline is typical unless it is.
