The best home builder Instagram accounts to study, and what a custom builder can copy from each
Updated 2 November 2026 · Written by Reyansh Juneja and Naman Dhiman, the co-founders of SOVE7GN, who run the campaigns and review the clips
The home builder Instagram accounts most worth studying include custom builders such as Risinger Build (Matt Risinger, Austin), Linnane Homes (Charlotte), Artisan Signature Homes, Gerrard Builders, Coats Homes and Patterson Custom Homes, and national builders Toll Brothers and David Weekley Homes. The clearest pattern we found: the accounts built around a person on camera post almost only video, while some of the best-known custom builders still post mostly photos.
Short answer: Of the 12 most recent posts shown on each public profile on 2 November 2026, the eight builders' grids had a median of 6.5 reels, ranging from 11 of 12 (Risinger Build) to 0 of 12 (Patterson Custom Homes). Copy the video-heavy custom builders: film the build as it happens with the owner explaining decisions, post often, and organize highlights by room or topic. We do not quote follower counts, which change daily.
How did we pick and check these accounts?
We started from builders named in public "builders to follow" lists and well-known national builders, then opened each profile page on 2 November 2026 and recorded only what was visible: the display name, the bio, the highlight names where shown, and whether each of the 12 most recent posts shown was a reel (video clip) or a photo or carousel. The 12 include pinned posts and collaboration posts by partner accounts that appear on the grid. Twelve posts is a small, one-day snapshot, so read the reel counts as a pattern, not a measurement. Inclusion is not an endorsement or a claim of any relationship with SOVE7GN, and every builder here is a business we have studied from the outside.
What does each account show?
| Account | Type | Reels in last 12 posts | What the profile shows |
|---|---|---|---|
| Risinger Build | Custom builder, Austin, TX | 11 | Display name Matt Risinger; bio says custom builder, building science, and host of The Build Show; many posts are collaborations with @thebuildshow; topic highlights such as a house build and a roofing expo |
| Linnane Homes | Luxury custom builder, Charlotte to Raleigh, NC | 10 (2 posted by partner accounts) | Bio points to available inventory; highlights by room: Exteriors, Kitchens, Bathrooms, Interiors, Details, plus From Above and Giving Back |
| Artisan Signature Homes | Luxury design-build firm | 7 | Display name is a person, Jason Black; bio describes homes and renovations; several posts credited to collaborators |
| David Weekley Homes | National builder | 7 (1 by a partner account) | Bio: "Trusted homebuilder since 1976"; highlights include Reviews, Cities and Inspiration |
| Toll Brothers | National luxury builder | 6 | Bio: "America's Luxury Home Builder"; highlights include Outdoor Living, Amenities and Collections |
| Gerrard Builders | Custom builder, Charlotte, NC | 6 | Bio speaks to "the discerning client"; a mix of reels and carousels, some from partner accounts |
| Coats Homes | Luxury custom builder, Texas | 4 (1 by a partner account) | Bio lists Dallas, Fort Worth, Frisco and Austin; highlights by city and project, plus "In the field" |
| Patterson Custom Homes | Custom builder, Orange County, CA | 0 | Grid of photos and carousels; highlights include Podcasts, Site Meetings and Office Life, so video lives in Stories rather than the grid |
Method for the reel column: on each profile page, we counted how many of the 12 posts shown were marked as clips (reels) rather than photos or carousels, on 2 November 2026. Values: 11, 10, 7, 7, 6, 6, 4, 0. Median: 6.5.
What patterns can a custom builder copy?
1. A person, not a logo. The two accounts whose display name is a person (Matt Risinger and Jason Black) posted 11 and 7 reels of their last 12. A custom build is a long, expensive relationship, and the owner explaining decisions on camera is what a client is buying into. A production builder can get away with a brand voice; a custom builder mostly cannot.
2. Film the build, not only the finished house. Photo-led grids show the finished home, which looks like every other finished home in the same price band. Video-led grids show framing, details, site visits and problems solved, which is the work only you do. Our home builder social media ideas page maps one build into 25 clips.
3. Highlights by room or topic. Linnane's highlights read like a menu of the house: Exteriors, Kitchens, Bathrooms, Interiors, Details. A prospective client can jump to what they care about. Coats organizes by city and project, which helps a builder working in several markets.
4. Collaborations multiply reach. Several grids include posts co-published with designers, garden designers and suppliers. Each collaboration shows the post to the partner's audience too. Get the partner's written permission for anything filmed on a shared job. Designers run the same playbook from the other side; our interior designer Instagram accounts list shows how nine studios present their projects.
5. Photo-led can still work if the video is elsewhere. Patterson's grid is all photos, but its highlights include Podcasts and Site Meetings. Our cautious reading: a builder with strong photography and a podcast is choosing where video lives; a builder with neither is leaving the most watched format unused.
What should a builder not copy?
Do not copy the national builders' approach if you are a custom builder: their grids sell many communities through a brand, not one person's judgment. Do not post claims you cannot back up ("best builder in [city]"), and check your state's licensing rules: some states require a contractor license number in advertising, which our contractor license number advertising page covers. If you sell homes you built, a post about a home for sale is a housing ad, so the fair housing rule on wording applies: describe the home, never who should live in it (24 CFR 100.75).
How do you post reels at a builder's pace?
Most builders film plenty on site and post little, because editing is the bottleneck. That is the part we take. One hour of long video, such as a site walk with the owner explaining each phase, usually gives us 12 to 20 clips. We send 2 example clips for approval, go live within 48 hours. Entry is $2,000 a month for 2 clips a day. Our custom home builder marketing page covers the full plan, and luxury real estate Instagram accounts applies the same study to agents. Questions people ask
Which home builders are best on Instagram?
Among the eight we checked on 2 November 2026, Risinger Build and Linnane Homes posted the most video, with 11 and 10 reels in their last 12 posts. Toll Brothers and David Weekley Homes are the national builders worth studying for highlights and community content.
What should a home builder post on Instagram?
Short videos from the build as it happens: site walks, framing and details, decisions explained by the owner, the client walkthrough at handover. Add room or topic highlights so visitors can find what they care about.
How often should a home builder post on Instagram?
Several times a week is achievable if you film on site and someone else edits. Risinger Build, the most video-heavy account in our check, had its 12 most recent posts within four days (29 October to 1 November 2026).
Do home builders need a license number on Instagram?
It depends on the state. Some states require a contractor license number in advertising, and a profile that promotes your services can count as advertising. Check your state board's rules.
