Car salesman Instagram: how to build a personal brand that sells cars, inside the dealer's rules
Updated 1 November 2026 · Written by Reyansh Juneja and Naman Dhiman, the co-founders of SOVE7GN, who run the campaigns and review the clips
A car salesman's Instagram sells when it shows the salesperson, not just the inventory: deliveries with happy owners, short walkarounds where you point out what a buyer would miss, and honest answers to the questions people ask on the lot. Before you post, get your dealership's social media policy in writing, because the same advertising rules apply to your personal account when you promote the dealer's cars.
Short answer: Post 4 to 7 short videos a week: 2 or 3 walkarounds, 1 or 2 deliveries (with the owner's permission), 1 answer to a common buyer question. Name your dealership in the bio (the store's own account has its own car dealership Instagram bio rules). Say you work there in posts that promote its cars, as the FTC's Endorsement Guides expect from employees (16 CFR 255.5). Never post a monthly payment without the full disclosures (12 CFR 226.24). General information, not legal advice.
What should a car salesperson post on Instagram?
| Post | How often | Why it works |
|---|---|---|
| Walkaround reel: one car, one feature most people miss | 2 to 3 a week | Shows you know the product better than the listing does |
| Delivery moment with the owner | 1 to 2 a week | Proof you sell cars and people are happy to be on camera with you |
| Buyer question answered | 1 a week | "Should I lease or buy?" "What is a dealer add-on?" Builds trust before the visit |
| New arrival first look | When it lands | Gives followers a reason to message you before it hits the website |
| Behind the scenes: the prep, the detailing, the trade-in appraisal | 1 a week | Makes the dealership feel open |
The frequencies are our recommendation, not a platform figure. Our car dealership reel ideas page shows how to cut 15 reels from one walkaround, which is how a salesperson keeps this pace without filming all day.
Do advertising rules apply to a salesperson's personal account?
Our cautious reading: yes, whenever you promote the dealership's cars or deals. The rules attach to the advertisement, not to whose account posts it.
- Payments and rates. Under Regulation Z, an ad that states a down payment, a number of payments or repayment period, a payment amount or a finance charge must also state the down payment, the repayment terms and the APR (12 CFR 226.24(d)). Leases have their own triggers under Regulation M, including any payment amount or "that no payment is required" (12 CFR 213.7(d)). "$399 a month, come see me" in a story is a trigger.
- Disclosing that you work there. The FTC's Endorsement Guides say material connections include "a business, family, or personal relationship," and their example of an employee promoting the employer's products says the employee should "clearly and conspicuously" disclose the job (16 CFR 255.5). "Sales at [Dealership]" in your bio helps, and saying "I work here" in a post that sells a car is the cautious habit.
- Claims about the car. The FTC Act bans deceptive practices (15 U.S.C. 45). "Accident-free" or "one owner" must be true and documented.
- Used cars. The FTC's Used Car Rule requires a Buyers Guide window sticker on used cars offered for sale, stating whether a warranty is offered (FTC). Do not describe warranty coverage in a post that differs from it.

What does the dealership's policy usually control?
Every dealer is different, and we have not seen a standard one, so ask for yours in writing. Questions to ask your sales manager:
- Can I post inventory, and do offers need approval first?
- Who handles payment and rate questions that come in by DM?
- Can I use the dealer's logo and name in my handle or bio?
- Are customer photos allowed, and is there a consent form?
- What happens to my account and followers if I move dealerships?
That last one matters. If the account is in your name and built on your face, you take the audience with you; if it is a dealer-branded account, you probably do not. Keep your handle personal.
Car salesman Instagram bio and handle ideas
| Field | Example (placeholders) | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Handle | @[firstname]sells[brand], @[firstname].[city]cars, @[firstname]at[dealer] | A dealer name in the handle ties the account to that job |
| Name field | [First Last], [Brand] Sales | The name field is searchable, so the brand word helps |
| Bio line 1 | Sales consultant at [Dealership], [City] | States the employment connection |
| Bio line 2 | Walkarounds, deliveries and straight answers | Says what the account posts |
| Bio line 3 | DM "car" to book a test drive | One next step |
| Link | Your booking or contact page on the dealer site | Approved by the dealer |
Avoid "#1 salesman" or "best prices in [city]" unless you can prove it; the FTC Act applies to those claims too.
How do you keep up with daily posting while selling?
Film one longer session a week: five walkarounds back to back, or a 30-minute Q&A where you answer the ten questions you hear most. Cut it into clips. Our car dealership Instagram captions page has caption formulas for each post type.
For dealer principals who want this done across the whole sales team, that is the work we do. One hour of long video usually gives 12 to 20 clips, posted on your own accounts daily, 2 example clips approved first, live within 48 hours. Entry is $2,000 a month for 2 clips a day. Questions people ask
How do car salesmen get customers on Instagram?
By posting short videos that show them: walkarounds that point out details buyers miss, deliveries with happy owners, and honest answers to common questions. Then a bio that names the dealership and one way to book.
What should a car salesman put in their Instagram bio?
Your role and dealership, what you post, and one next step such as "DM to book a test drive". Naming the dealership also discloses the connection the FTC expects employees to make.
Can car salespeople post inventory on their personal Instagram?
Usually, if the dealership allows it. Ask for the policy in writing, and keep payments, rates and "$0 down" out of posts unless the full disclosures are included.
What is a good Instagram name for a car salesman?
Your first name plus the brand or your city, such as @[firstname]sells[brand]. Keep it personal rather than tied to the dealership, so the account stays yours if you move.
