How to clip games on PC

Updated 24 October 2026 · Written by Reyansh Juneja and Naman Dhiman, the co-founders of SOVE7GN, who run the campaigns and review the clips

The best gaming moments happen when you're not recording. That's why almost every way to clip games on PC uses a replay buffer: your PC keeps the last stretch of gameplay ready, and a hotkey saves it.

Short answer: turn on a replay buffer and set a hotkey. Free options include Medal, NVIDIA Instant Replay (for NVIDIA graphics cards), AMD Instant Replay (for AMD cards), Xbox Game Bar (built into Windows) and OBS's replay buffer. When something happens, press the hotkey to save the last few seconds or minutes as a clip, then trim and crop it for short-form.

Menus and defaults change with updates, so check each tool's settings for the replay length, quality and hotkey.

Setting it up well

  1. Replay length: 30 to 60 seconds covers most moments.
  2. Quality: high enough to look sharp after cropping to vertical.
  3. Hotkey: something you can hit mid-game without thinking.
  4. Storage: clips add up. Pick a folder and clean it weekly.
  5. Audio: separate game and mic tracks if your tool allows it, so you can balance them later.

Common mistakes

Too many clips, not enough time?

If you're saving more clips than you post, a clipping retainer can take it from there. SOVE7GN edits and posts 2 to 4 clips a day on your accounts, from $2,000 a month.
