Med spa membership ideas: 6 membership models, the auto-renewal rules behind them, and how to film the pitch

Updated 2 November 2026 · Written by Reyansh Juneja and Naman Dhiman, the co-founders of SOVE7GN, who run the campaigns and review the clips

The med spa memberships that keep members are built around a treatment people already repeat, such as a monthly facial or regular injectable maintenance, with the fee banked as credit so it never feels wasted. Whatever model you pick, a membership that renews automatically is a subscription in law: you have to show the terms before payment, get clear consent, and, in California and under federal law for online sign-ups, make cancelling simple.

Short answer: pick one of six models (credit bank, treatment-a-month, maintenance plan, tiered, prepaid annual, skin plan), price it from your own numbers, and promote it with your staff explaining what is included and how to cancel. In the US, the federal ROSCA law requires clear terms, express consent and a simple way to stop charges for online sign-ups; California requires online cancellation if people can join online. UK clinics may not name prescription-only medicines in membership ads. General information, not legal advice. Checked November 2026.

Which membership models work for a med spa?

These are structures, not prices. Set the fee from your own treatment costs and visit data; nobody else's numbers will fit your clinic.

Credit bankThe monthly fee becomes treatment credit, plus member pricingClinics with a broad menuState how long credit lasts and what happens to it on cancelling

Two ideas to avoid: a membership whose only benefit is a discount, which gives members no reason to stay in a month they have nothing booked, and a "free" bonus that is really built into the fee. Under the FTC's guide, "free" has to mean free, with the conditions stated clearly at the outset (16 CFR 251.1). The wider rules on offers, "was" prices and gift cards are on our med spa promotion ideas page, which covers one-off promotions; this page is about recurring memberships.

What are the auto-renewal and cancellation rules?

Federal (US). For sales online, the Restore Online Shoppers' Confidence Act requires the seller to clearly and conspicuously disclose all material terms before taking billing details, obtain "express informed consent before charging", and provide "simple mechanisms for a consumer to stop recurring charges" (15 U.S.C. 8403). The FTC's broader "click-to-cancel" rule was vacated by the Eighth Circuit on 8 July 2025 before it took effect (Morgan Lewis), so ROSCA and state laws are what apply.

California. The automatic renewal law requires the renewal terms to be presented clearly and conspicuously before the agreement is fulfilled, affirmative consent before charging, and an acknowledgment the member can keep. If a member signs up online, they must be able to cancel "exclusively online, at will", and annual plans need an annual reminder (Cal. Bus. & Prof. Code 17602, amendments effective for contracts from 1 July 2025). Other states have their own auto-renewal laws; check yours.

Our cautious reading for the content itself: any post or reel that sells the membership should say, on screen or in the caption, that it renews monthly and how to cancel. It costs you nothing and it is the question every viewer has.

Can UK clinics include injectables in a membership?

They can include them in the plan, but not name them in the ad. Prescription-only medicines may not be advertised to the public, and the ASA says a clinic's own social posts and hashtags naming one are likely to count (ASA on botulinum toxin). The ASA has also treated offers limited to anti-wrinkle treatments as indirect promotion, and calls countdown pressure such as "offer must end Friday" irresponsible (ASA). Our cautious reading: a UK membership ad promotes consultations and named non-prescription treatments only, with no join-by deadline.

How do you promote a membership on social media?

A membership is a trust purchase, so it sells best when the people who run it explain it. Six clips from one filming session:

  1. "What is in the membership?" Your front-desk lead walks through it in under 40 seconds.
  2. "How do I cancel?" Answered on camera. It answers the first question most people have.
  3. "Is it worth it for me?" Your coordinator on who should join and who should pay per visit. "Are med spa memberships worth it" is a common search; answer it honestly.
  4. A member's month, filmed with a staff member who is a member: booking, the visit, using credit.
  5. The founder on why you built it. The reasoning behind the price, without quoting other clinics.
  6. The reminder clip. A short "members: your credit for this month" post, which doubles as a pitch to non-members.

One hour of staff talk usually gives 12 to 20 short clips. If you want them cut and posted on your accounts, we do that, live within 48 hours, Entry $2,000 a month for 2 clips a day. Questions people ask

What are good med spa membership packages?

Packages built around a treatment people already repeat: a monthly facial, regular injectable maintenance in the US, or a credit bank where the fee becomes treatment credit. Price them from your own costs and visit data.

Are med spa memberships worth it?

For the patient, they are usually worth it only if they already visit regularly. Say that in your marketing, so people join for the right reason.

Do med spa memberships need online cancellation?

In California, if members can sign up online they must be able to cancel online, at will. Federal law requires a simple way to stop recurring charges for online sales. Check your own state's auto-renewal law as well.

Can a med spa offer a free treatment with a membership?

Yes, if it is genuinely free and the conditions are stated clearly up front, per the FTC's guide on "free" offers. If the cost is built into the fee, do not call it free.
