Spotify video podcast clips: how clipping grows a Spotify show
Updated 15 October 2026 · Written by the SOVE7GN founders
This page is for podcasters who publish video on Spotify and want clips to grow the show, on Spotify and off it. It covers Spotify's two clip features, what the Partner Program pays for, and a weekly workflow.
Short answer: Spotify lets creators upload one 15 to 90 second video clip per episode in Spotify for Creators, which can be recommended on Home, the Podcast feed and Browse. Since May 2026, listeners can also cut and share their own clips. Spotify Partner Program pay is based on streams of 60 seconds or more, so clips matter when they send people to full episodes.
Spotify's two clip features
Spotify now has clips on both sides: ones you upload as the creator, and ones listeners cut themselves.
| Creator Clips | Listener clips | |
|---|---|---|
| Who makes them | You, in Spotify for Creators | Any listener, on mobile |
| Length | 15 to 90 seconds | Listener picks the segment |
| How many | One clip per episode | Unlimited |
| Where they show | Your show page; may be recommended on Home, Podcast feed, Browse and Now Playing | Shared by link or to other apps; saved in the listener's library |

Creator Clips rules, per Spotify's help page: MP4 or MOV, up to 1GB, must include audio, vertical recommended, and no copyrighted music unless you own the rights. The clip should relate to and promote the episode.
Listener clips rolled out globally to free and Premium users on mobile in late May 2026, starting with select podcasts. A scissors icon on the Now Playing screen lets listeners trim a segment and share it.
What the Spotify Partner Program pays for
Clips do not earn Partner Program money on their own. They earn by sending people to full episodes. According to Spotify's Partner Program page, checked October 13, 2026:
- Eligibility: at least 3 published episodes, 2,000 consumption hours and 1,000 audience members on Spotify in the last 30 days, a show hosted on Spotify for Creators, and a legal address in an eligible market.
- Ad revenue: creators earn 50% of the revenue from Spotify-monetized ads that play in their episodes.
- Premium video revenue: paid based on consumption of video episodes by Premium members in select markets.
- What counts: "A stream is counted when a listener or viewer on Spotify streams your episode or video for 60 seconds or more."
- New markets: the program expands to more countries, including Italy, Spain, Poland, Mexico and Brazil, on October 20, 2026.
The 60-second rule is the important one for clipping. A clip that makes someone press play on the full episode and stay a minute turns into a counted stream. A clip that only entertains does not.
Why Spotify is pushing video
Spotify is building video podcasts fast. Per Spotify figures reported by RouteNote on September 18, 2026, more than 390 million users have streamed a video podcast, nearly half a million video shows are on the platform, and monthly payouts to enrolled shows rose by more than a third after Spotify lowered the entry requirements earlier in 2026.
More video shows means more competition for attention inside Spotify. Clips are how a show gets found before someone searches for it.
A weekly clip workflow for Spotify podcasters
Clips should work in two places: inside Spotify, and on TikTok, Reels and Shorts, where most new listeners first see you.
- Pick the moment for your Spotify Clip. One per episode, so choose the strongest 30 to 60 seconds: a clear claim, a story with a payoff, or a guest's best line. Upload it vertical, with captions.
- Cut 8 to 15 more clips for social. One hour of talk-heavy video usually gives 12 to 20 clips. See podcast to short-form clips.
- Point every clip at the full episode. Put "Full episode on Spotify" and the episode title in the caption, and pin a comment with the link.
- Use chapters. Listener clips build on Spotify's chapters, and chapters help people jump from a clip to the right part of the episode.
- Watch streams, not just plays. Compare the Spotify streams on episodes you clipped against ones you did not. That is how you know the clips work.
- Repeat weekly. One upload a week with daily clips beats a burst of 30 clips once a month.

Spotify Clips vs clipping on TikTok and Shorts
Spotify Clips reach people already on Spotify. Social clips reach people who do not know you yet. You need both, and they do different jobs.
| Spotify Clip | TikTok, Reels, Shorts clips | |
|---|---|---|
| Per episode | 1 | As many as you can make well |
| Audience | Spotify users, often already podcast listeners | Mostly people who do not listen to you yet |
| Goal | Get a play on the full episode | Get a follow, then a listen |
| Risk | Low | Reach cuts for raw re-uploads on YouTube after October 1, 2026; see the Shorts originality update |
SOVE7GN clips podcasts on retainer, posting 2 clips a day on your own accounts from $2,000 a month, with a weekly strategy call. See podcast clipping.
Questions people ask
Can you post clips on Spotify?
Yes. Creators can upload one 15 to 90 second video clip per episode in Spotify for Creators. Listeners can also cut and share clips from supported podcasts on mobile.
How do I make a clip of a Spotify podcast?
As a listener, tap the scissors icon on the Now Playing screen, trim the segment and share it. As a creator, upload a clip to an episode in Spotify for Creators.
Do Spotify clips count toward the Partner Program?
Spotify's Partner Program counts streams of 60 seconds or more on episodes and videos. Its page does not say clips count; treat clips as a way to drive full-episode streams.
Is Spotify better than YouTube for video podcasts?
They do different jobs. Most shows publish to both and clip for TikTok, Reels and Shorts to bring new listeners to either.
