Twitch clips vs YouTube clips
Updated 23 October 2026 · Written by Reyansh Juneja and Naman Dhiman, the co-founders of SOVE7GN, who run the campaigns and review the clips
Both Twitch and YouTube let viewers clip short sections of streams and videos. They're useful, but they're not the same as making short-form clips for TikTok, Reels or Shorts.
Short answer: Twitch clips let viewers and streamers save a short section of a stream (up to 60 seconds) and share a link. YouTube's Clip feature lets viewers share a 5 to 60 second section of an eligible video or livestream. Both are great for quick shares and spotting popular moments. For short-form posts, you'll usually re-edit the moment into a vertical clip with captions.

Why built-in clips are useful
- They show what your audience loved. Lots of viewer clips on one moment means it's worth turning into a short.
- They're instant. No software needed.
- They spread inside the platform, pulling people back to the full stream or video.
Why they aren't short-form posts
- They keep the widescreen layout.
- They don't add captions or hooks.
- They link back to the original rather than standing alone on another app.
Turning a built-in clip into a short
- Use the clip to find the moment.
- Grab the source footage from your VOD or video.
- Cut it vertical: facecam on top, action below for streams.
- Open on the payoff and add captions.
- Post on TikTok, Shorts and Reels.
