Fan page vs main account: why run both?
Updated 10 October 2026 · Written by the SOVE7GN founders
Many artists, streamers and personalities have pages about them that they don't officially run. Some of the smartest ones run those pages themselves, or have someone run them. Here's why.
Short answer: your main account is your official voice. A fan page is a separate account that posts clips, moments and edits of you, the way a fan would. It can post more often, try bolder edits and reach people who'd never follow an official account. Run together, they cover both: a polished home and a high-volume feed. Fan pages can also earn ad revenue on platforms that pay for views.
The difference
| Main account | Fan page | |
|---|---|---|
| Voice | Official, yours | A fan's view of you |
| Posting rhythm | Considered, less frequent | High volume, every day |
| Content | Announcements, originals, polished clips | Moments, edits, throwbacks, compilations |
| Risk tolerance | Low | Higher: can test hooks and trends |
| What people expect | You | More of you |
Why fan pages work
- More shots on goal. Each post is another chance to land in someone's feed.
- Different hooks. A fan page can test edits you wouldn't put on your official page.
- Social proof. An active fan page signals that people care.
- Revenue. On platforms that share revenue with creators, a fan page with steady views can earn.
What to post where
Main account: release announcements, tour dates, original content, your best clips, anything you'd sign your name to.
Fan page: moments from streams, podcasts and shows, behind-the-scenes, compilations, throwbacks, reactions, and fresh hooks from old material.
Being honest about who runs it
If you or your team run a fan page, don't pretend to be an independent fan in ways that would mislead people, especially around paid promotions. Keep disclosures where platforms or ad rules require them.
How SOVE7GN handles fan pages
- On our Growth plan, $4,000 a month, the 4 clips a day can be split: 2 for your main page and 2 for a fan page.
- We can build fan pages for you, and you keep 50 to 100% of their ad revenue. See fan page management.
Questions people ask
Can a fan page hurt my main account?
Not if it posts good content under clear rules. Agree what's off-limits before it starts, the same as any clip.
How often should a fan page post?
More often than your main account. One to two clips a day is a reasonable start.
Who owns a fan page you build for me?
Agree that in writing before we start. Our terms say fan-page ad revenue splits are agreed in writing.
Do fan pages make money?
They can, on platforms with creator revenue programs, once the page meets the program's rules. Earnings depend on the platform, the views and where viewers are.
