Esthetician Instagram story ideas: 15 Stories, a 7-day plan, and the highlights that fill your book
Updated 3 November 2026 · Written by Reyansh Juneja and Naman Dhiman, the co-founders of SOVE7GN, who run the campaigns and review the clips
The best esthetician Instagram story ideas get a follower to tap something: a poll on a skin habit, a question box for skin questions, a link sticker to tomorrow's open slot. Stories are where people who already follow you decide to book, so they should be quick, phone-shot and tied to your calendar, while reels do the job of finding new clients.
Short answer: Post 3 to 6 Stories on most days: one interactive sticker (poll, quiz or question box), one behind-the-scenes clip from your room, and one link sticker to a specific open slot or your booking page. Stories disappear after 24 hours, so save the useful ones into five highlights: Book, Services, Prep, Aftercare, Results. Film clients only with their written permission. Checked 3 November 2026.
How are Stories different from reels for an esthetician?
| Reels | Stories | |
|---|---|---|
| Who sees it | Followers and people who do not follow you yet | Mostly people who already follow you |
| How long it lasts | Stays on your profile | 24 hours, unless saved to a highlight |
| Job | Get found | Get booked |
| Effort | Planned, edited | Raw, same day, one take |
| Tools | On-screen text, captions | Polls, quizzes, questions, countdowns, link stickers |
Highlights are how a Story outlives its day. Instagram added them in December 2017: they "appear in a new section on your profile below your bio" and stay until you remove them (Instagram).
What are 15 esthetician Instagram story ideas?
Polls and quizzes
- "Do you double cleanse at night?" Yes or no, then a 15-second Story on why it matters for your clients' skin type. Instagram's poll sticker lets you "ask a question and see results" as people vote (Instagram, 2017).
- "Which one is a chemical exfoliant?" A quiz with three product types; post the answer an hour later.
- "Sunscreen every day, even in winter?" A poll that leads into your aftercare advice.
- "What should I film next: dermaplaning or a lash lift?" Let followers pick next week's reel.
Question box
- "Ask me one skin question." Answer three of them on camera the same day. The best answer becomes a reel.
- "What are you nervous about before your first facial?" The answers are your next month of captions.
- "Tell me your current routine in three steps." Answer in general terms only. If someone describes a rash or a lesion, tell them to see a dermatologist; diagnosing is not an esthetician's job.
Booking
- Open slot today. A photo of your empty chair, the time, and a link sticker to that exact appointment on your booking page.
- Cancellation list. "Reply 'list' if you want first call on cancellations." Then actually call them.
- Countdown to a launch. A countdown sticker for a new service or a holiday booking window opening, posted a few days before.
- New client offer, once a month. If you run one, say the full price and the terms on the Story, not only "DM for price".
Link stickers have been open to all accounts since 27 October 2021, except newly created accounts and accounts that repeatedly break Instagram's rules (Instagram). A new account should build a few weeks of posts before relying on them.
Behind the scenes
- Room reset between clients. Ten seconds of cleaning and fresh linens. It answers the hygiene question without saying a word.
- Unboxing a product order, with a sentence on why you chose it (the product claims to avoid are on esthetician Instagram captions). If the brand sent it free, say so on the Story: the FTC counts free or discounted products as a material connection that "must be disclosed clearly and conspicuously" (16 CFR 255.5).
- Training day. A class, a new certification, a technique you are practicing. Name the course, not a credential you do not hold yet.
- A client's reaction, filmed only with their written permission, and never their face mid-treatment unless they agreed to that specifically.
What does a week of esthetician Stories look like?
| Day | Stories |
|---|---|
| Monday | Poll on a skin habit, the answer, a link sticker to the week's open slots |
| Tuesday | Room reset, one product you used today and why |
| Wednesday | Question box, three answers on camera |
| Thursday | Open slot for Friday, link sticker to that time |
| Friday | Client reaction with permission, a reminder about weekend aftercare |
| Saturday | Quiz, answer later in the day |
| Sunday | One line on next week's availability, link sticker |
That is 3 to 4 Stories a day, all filmed on your phone between clients. Our esthetician Instagram post ideas page plans the feed side of the same week, and agents can compare notes on our real estate Instagram story ideas page, which uses the same stickers for open houses.
Which highlights should an esthetician keep?
Five, with plain one-word covers:
| Highlight | What goes in it |
|---|---|
| Book | How to book, deposit and cancellation policy, a link sticker to your booking page |
| Services | One Story per service, with the price or price range and how long it takes |
| Prep | What to do and avoid before a facial, a peel or waxing |
| Aftercare | Your written aftercare, one Story per service |
| Results | Client results with written permission, the service named, same light before and after |
Keep services inside your license. The California board's estheticians flier, for example, lists microneedling, lasers, radio frequency and injections as out of scope, so a California esthetician should not have them in a Services highlight. The bio that sits above your highlights is covered on our esthetician Instagram bio page, and result posts on med spa before and after rules.
Where do reels fit in?
Stories only reach people who already follow you, so they cannot grow an account on their own. Reels can. If you run a skin studio or med spa and want reels posted daily without filming daily, we cut them from one longer session of you talking while you work: one hour usually gives 12 to 20 clips, you approve 2 example clips before anything goes live, and we go live within 48 hours on your own accounts. Entry is $2,000 a month for 2 clips a day. See how we work with founder-led businesses or book a 30-minute call.
Questions people ask
What should an esthetician post on Instagram Stories?
One interactive sticker a day (a poll, quiz or question box), one behind-the-scenes clip from your treatment room, and one link sticker to a specific open slot or your booking page. Save the useful ones into highlights.
How do I add a booking link to my Instagram Story?
Add the link sticker from the sticker tray and paste your booking page or a specific appointment link. Instagram opened link stickers to all accounts in October 2021, except newly created accounts and accounts that repeatedly break its rules.
What highlights should an esthetician have?
Book, Services, Prep, Aftercare and Results is a set that answers what a new client asks, in order. Keep covers simple and keep every service inside your license.
Can I post clients in my Instagram Stories?
Only with their written permission, and only what they agreed to. A Story disappears after 24 hours, but anyone can screenshot it, so treat it like any other post.
