How to clip videos on your phone

Updated 24 October 2026 · Written by Reyansh Juneja and Naman Dhiman, the co-founders of SOVE7GN, who run the campaigns and review the clips

You don't need a computer to make good clips. Plenty of clippers do everything on a phone. Here's a simple workflow that works on iPhone or Android.

Short answer: get the source video onto your phone, open it in a mobile editor (such as CapCut, or your phone's built-in editor for simple trims), cut the moment so it opens on the payoff, set the canvas to 9:16, add auto captions and fix any mistakes, then export at 1080×1920 and post.

Step 1: Get the source video

Step 2: Trim the moment

  1. Import the video into your editor.
  2. Scrub to the moment.
  3. Split just before the payoff and just after it.
  4. Delete everything else.

Step 3: Set the format

SettingUse
Canvas9:16
FramingSpeaker's face or the action in the centre
BackgroundBlur or fill if the source is widescreen

Step 4: Captions

Most mobile editors have auto captions. Always read them through: names, slang and music lyrics are often wrong. Keep captions in the middle of the screen, away from the app's buttons at the bottom and right.

Step 5: Hook text

Add one short line at the top if the clip needs context: "He didn't know the mic was on."

Step 6: Export and post

Export at 1080×1920. Post natively on each app, and avoid uploading a file with another app's watermark.
