How to start a clipping agency

Updated 15 October 2026 · Written by the SOVE7GN founders

This guide is for clippers and editors thinking about turning clipping into a business. It's written by a clipping agency, so you'll get the real structure, the real price points in the market, and the parts the "agency starter kit" videos skip.

Short answer: to start a clipping agency, pick one model (retainer editing, a CPM clipper network, or both), choose a niche, publish a clear price, make free example clips for your first clients, and build a small vetted clipper team. Market prices in October 2026 ran from a $1,000 self-serve minimum on Vyro to $15,000 managed minimums. Thin CPM margins mean you need volume or retainers.

The four clipping business models

Most agencies run one or two of these. Each makes money in a different way.

ModelHow you earnWho does the workMain risk
Retainer editingFixed monthly fee per clientYour editors, posting on the client's accountsClient churn
CPM networkA fee on top of a clipper poolClippers posting on their own accountsFake views, thin margins
Self-serve campaignsRunning Content Rewards campaigns for brandsOpen marketplace clippersCompeting with free tools

Retainers give steady revenue. CPM networks scale reach but each dollar is mostly passed through to clippers. See CPM clipping vs retainer for the buyer's view.

What the market charges

Your price has to make sense next to what's already published. These are public figures, checked October 2026.

WhoModelPublished starting point
Content Rewards (Whop)Self-serve marketplace$1,000 minimum, 10% platform fee (site)
VyroSelf-serve marketplace$1,000 minimum (for brands)
Lumina ClippersManaged CPM$5,000 minimum (pricing)
Clipping CultureManaged CPM$15,000 starter tier (pricing)
SOVE7GNRetainer and managed CPM$2,000 a month retainer; CPM pool from $5,500 plus 15%

Clipping Culture's own page lists its $15,000 tier as averaging about 22 million verified views, about $0.68 per 1,000. Those are their stated averages, not a quote. If you're new, you won't compete on price per view with networks that size. Compete on niche knowledge, speed and service instead.

The CPM margin, worked out

The CPM model looks bigger than it is. Most of the money goes to clippers.

Take a $5,500 clipper pool with a 15% management fee:

  1. The client pays $6,325.
  2. $5,500 goes to clippers. At $1 per 1,000 views, that's 5.5 million approved views.
  3. The agency keeps $825.

That $825 has to cover writing the brief, making example clips, reviewing every submission, chasing fake views and weekly reporting. If one person spends 25 hours on the campaign, that's $33 an hour before tools. This is why many agencies pair CPM campaigns with retainers. It's also why you should never skip review to save time: paying for fake views burns the client's budget and your reputation.

How SOVE7GN is set up

Since it's useful to see a real structure, here is ours:

Getting your first clients

Your first clients come from proof, not pitches.

  1. Pick one niche. Comedians, podcasts, music, gaming or coaches. One niche means your example clips and your clipper team both get better faster. See best clipping niches.
  2. Make spec clips. Cut 2 or 3 clips from a target's recent video and send them. It shows exactly what they'd get.
  3. Publish a price. It filters out buyers who can't afford you before the call.
  4. Sell a small first month. A month-to-month retainer lowers the risk for the client.
  5. Report weekly. Views, top clips and what you'll change. It's what keeps clients past month two.

Our clipping brief template is a good starting point for your first campaign rules.

Costs and risks to plan for

Starting costs are low: editing software, a Discord server, a Whop account for payouts, and a legal entity once money flows. The real risks are elsewhere.

Questions people ask

Is a clipping agency a good business?

It can be, but CPM margins are thin. Agencies that last usually combine retainers with CPM campaigns and focus on a niche.

How much does it cost to start a clipping agency?

Very little upfront: editing software, Discord, a Whop account and later a registered company. The bigger cost is your time reviewing clips and finding clients.

What is an AI clipping agency?

An agency that uses AI tools to find moments and draft clips, then edits and posts them. The tools speed up cutting, but you still need humans for hooks and review. See does AI clipping work.

How do clipping agencies find clients?

Usually by sending free example clips to creators in one niche, publishing clear prices, and asking happy clients for referrals.

Can I start a clipping agency on Whop?

Yes. Many agencies run campaigns through Whop's Content Rewards and pay clippers there. You still need to write the brief and review clips.
