Opus Clip vs a clipping agency
Updated 10 October 2026 · Written by the SOVE7GN founders
Opus Clip is one of the most popular AI tools for turning long videos into short clips. A clipping agency does a different job. This page lays out where the tool is enough and where it isn't.
Short answer: Opus Clip gives you clips. It doesn't pick your strategy, review what goes out, or get your clips onto accounts that aren't yours. If you have the time to choose, fix and post clips yourself, the tool is great value. If you want the posting, the strategy and reach beyond your own followers handled, that's what an agency is for.
What Opus Clip does
Opus Clip's pricing page (checked October 2026) lists:
| Plan | Price | Notable features |
|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | AI clipping, limited storage |
| Starter | $15 a month | Virality score, posting to YouTube Shorts, TikTok and Instagram |
| Pro | $29 a month | More clipping signals, posting to more platforms, a scheduler |
| Business | Custom | Contact sales |

What an AI tool can't do for you
- Know what matters to your audience. The tool scores clips on general signals. It doesn't know which guest, lyric or inside joke your fans care about.
- Keep context. AI cuts sometimes drop the setup or cut a sentence so it means something else. A person catches that.
- Distribute. Posting to your own accounts reaches people who already follow you. The tool doesn't put clips on other people's pages.
- Plan. A weekly strategy call and an idea doc are not features you can switch on.

Using both
Plenty of teams use an AI tool to find candidate moments fast, then have a person decide what actually goes out. That's roughly how a good agency works too: tools for speed, people for judgment.
Which one is right for you
Use Opus Clip on its own if you have the time, you know your audience, and your budget is small.
Use an agency if short-form is meant to grow the business and nobody on your team owns it. Our Entry plan is $2,000 a month for 2 clips a day on your accounts, a weekly strategy call and an idea doc. Sign for 3 months and we guarantee 1,000,000 views.
Questions people ask
Is Opus Clip good enough for a podcast?
For finding moments quickly, yes. Most podcasts still need someone to check each clip for context and to decide what's worth posting.
Does SOVE7GN use AI tools?
We use whatever gets the job done faster, but every clip is chosen and checked by a person before it goes out.
Can Opus Clip get my clips onto other accounts?
No. It posts to accounts you connect. Getting clips onto many other accounts is what a clipping network does. See CPM clipping pricing.
Is an agency worth it if I already pay for Opus Clip?
If the clips are getting made but nobody has time to post, plan and improve them, yes. If you have that time, keep the tool.
