What is clipping?
Updated 10 October 2026 · Written by the SOVE7GN founders
Clipping is one of the fastest-growing ways to get attention on short-form video. The word gets used for a few related things, so here's a plain explanation of each.
Short answer: clipping is cutting long videos (podcasts, streams, music, interviews) into short vertical clips and posting them on TikTok, Reels, Shorts and other apps. A clipping campaign pays many creators, called clippers, to post clips of your content on their own accounts, usually per 1,000 views. A clipping agency runs that for you, and often runs your own accounts too.
The three meanings of "clipping"
| Term | Meaning |

| Clipping | Cutting a short moment out of a long video |
| Clipper | A person who cuts and posts clips, usually on their own accounts, and gets paid per view |
| Clipping campaign | A brand or creator paying many clippers to post clips of their content |

How a clipping campaign works
- A creator or brand provides long videos and a budget.
- Rules are written: which videos, which audio, which tags, what's off-limits.
- Clippers cut clips and post them on their own accounts.
- Each clip is checked. Clips that break the rules or show fake views are rejected.
- Clippers are paid per 1,000 approved views until the budget runs out.
Why it works
- Many audiences at once. Each clipper's account reaches different people.
- It doesn't look like an ad. Clips look like normal content, so people watch them.
- Repetition. People see the same person, song or idea several times in a week.
- Pay for results. On a per-view campaign, flops cost little.
Who uses clipping
- Musicians, to get a hook heard in release week.
- Streamers and gaming creators, to get big moments seen by people who weren't watching.
- Podcasters, to reach new listeners.
- Comedians, to sell tour tickets.
- Founders, coaches and educators, to show what they know.
- Brands with founder-led or personality-led content.
The two ways to buy it
- Retainer clipping: an agency posts clips on your own accounts every day. At SOVE7GN, from $2,000 a month.
- CPM clipping: clippers post on their own accounts and are paid per view from a pool you fund. At SOVE7GN, pools from $5,500 plus a 15% fee.
What can go wrong
- Fake views. Paying per view invites cheating. Every clip needs checking.
- Bad cuts. A clip that drops context can embarrass you.
- Rights. Clippers should only use content they have permission to use.
