How to promote a comedy tour with clips
Updated 10 October 2026 · Written by the SOVE7GN founders
For a touring comic, every clip is an ad for the show. But most comedy clips are posted whenever, with no link to the dates. A little planning turns the same clips into ticket sales.
Short answer: start posting clips heavily 3 to 4 weeks before a run of dates, put the city and date in the caption (not on top of the joke), clip finished material and crowd work rather than the set you're touring, and post a "this week" reminder in the days before each show.
The schedule
| When | What to post |
|---|---|
| 4 weeks out | Announce the dates; start daily clips from older sets and the podcast |
| 3–2 weeks out | Best crowd work and stories; city names in captions |
| The week of a show | "This week in [city]" posts; strongest clips |
| Show day | A short reminder; behind the scenes from the venue |
| After | Crowd work from the night (with permission), and thanks to the city |
What to clip
- Crowd work. Self-contained, easy to follow, and shows what a live show feels like.
- Finished bits from older specials or sets.
- Podcast stories and riffs.
- Backstage and road moments that make people feel part of the tour.
What not to give away
Don't clip the closer of the set you're touring, or the bits you're building the show around. Clips should make people want to see the show, not feel they've already seen it.
Captions that sell
- Put the city and date in the caption and in a pinned comment.
- Keep the punchline out of the caption.
- Make the ticket link easy to find on your profile.
Clip technique for comedy
- Trim the setup, keep the pause before the punchline.
- Keep the laugh in, and end on it.
- Captions word by word, so the punchline isn't spoiled.

Reaching people beyond your followers
Your fans already know about the tour. The people you need are the ones in each city who don't follow you yet. A clipping campaign puts your clips on many other accounts at once. We check where viewers are as part of review, and put cities in captions.

Questions people ask
How long before a show should I start posting?
3 to 4 weeks before a run of dates, and more heavily in the final week before each show.
Should I post the same clip for every city?
You can reuse strong clips with a new caption for each city.
Can I clip audience members?
Only with their permission, especially for crowd work. When in doubt, blur or crop.
What if I don't have recorded sets?
Start recording now, even on one phone with good audio. Podcast appearances and interviews also work.
